DVD and CD for Storage

The latest technology for data storage has taken us from the traditional hard copy files to having soft copy files saved in many different storage devices. This has not only made the data and information more compact but also more secured. In our company, backup files are usually stored in DVD’s and kept in a secured place. Whenever another office or organization, like clients or office branches, needs some data from us, we send them through DVD’s that are protected by dvd mailers.

A few years back, we would still send hard copies of reports to our head office. This incurred expensive mailing charges which are not practical. One reason for this is that mails are priced according to their weight. Since we started to use DVD’s for our backup files and data storage, we managed to save a lot from mailing expenses. On a rough estimate, we are probably saving around 60% as compared to mailing hard copy files.

Personally, I also use DVD’s and CD’s in storing and backing up my files. Whether their photos, spreadsheets, word documents or presentation reports, I store them in this thin wonders.
